Frustration is mounting over the lack of action on a farm bill. “We’ve got to make an update to the safety net, that’s agriculture’s message; we want to get this baby done and we want to get it done now,” said Harrison Weber, executive director, Red River Valley Sugarbeet Growers Association. “There is talk of getting an extension potentially during lame duck, but if either of those doesn’t happen, that has to be priority number one.” RRVSGA is also taking an active role in nutrition policy. “We’ve got a long history of being politically active and we’re quite savvy in that realm, but getting in front of consumers and our customers is a newer thing for us.”
