Farmers in the Eastern Corn Belt are dealing with tar spot. Kluis Commodities market analyst Jacob Burks says the problem is widespread. “In southern Wisconsin we started seeing this at least two years ago. Every year since, this has been an increasing factor for the corn, impacting the stalk integrity. Corn yields decline. Now, northern Illinois farmers are now being affected.” Farmers who’ve had previous experience with tar spot are managing it. “Those farmers who’ve had it before got in early to spray for it. It’s the other farmers who haven’t dealt with it before who are struggling.”
