Boots on the Ground: Potential Exists for Corn and Soybeans

Crop growth has been stunted by a combination of dry soils, extreme heat and immense wind. The Boots on the Ground Tour went beyond weather maps and computer modeling to gain a firsthand perspective on crop conditions. Advance Trading Risk Management Advisor Tommy Grisafi led this tour. “We met some great people and we saw some absolutely horrendous wheat. We were in Minot when one of the biggest rains in the past 12 months happened so we know it can rain.” Small grains are in trouble, but there is potential for corn and soybeans. “If timely rains happen, we could actually have a nice bean crop in North Dakota. If we jump in out time capsule and go six weeks from now and it is hot and dry, there will be a lot of market volatility in beans. Mother Nature is large and in charge.”
