North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum met with agriculture groups in the Red River Valley on Monday afternoon to hear more about the dry conditions. The governor has already declared a statewide drought disaster, and there are drought resources available from the State Agriculture Department for farmers and ranchers. As conditions worsen, Burgum says there could be more ways to help, whether its subsidizing hay hauling or helping younger livestock producers. “It’s a challenging situation. We will do all that we can from the state level. What we really need is Mother Nature to come in and help.” More roundtable discussions on the drought are taking place in Washburn, Rugby and Medora, North Dakota.
