In southeastern North Dakota, most growers starting planting corn in early May. Since that time, the corn has enjoyed fast growth. CHS-Dakota Plains Ag assistant general manager Dan Olsen, who is based at Gwinner, North Dakota, appreciates the fast growth. but has concerns about stalk quality. “With the amount of heat that we had early and that much rapid growth early, I’m always concerned about stalk integrity. You’re just one big wind away from a mess.” Fungicide application is a top priority for the spring wheat. “The stands of wheat looks good and a lot of guys are protecting it.” While attention is on fungicides on wheat, Olsen is encouraging fungicides for row crops to enhance plant health and yield.
