The latest U.S. Drought Monitor map shows increasing drought in the western United States. Total Farm Marketing market analyst Naomi Blohm says the increasing dryness is very significant. “The U.S. drought was worse this year than it was in December 2011. It’s significant. Clients of ours in the western states are hoping for really good snow pack, because it impacts irrigation. It’s a big deal and we’re watching it,” says Blohm. “The market isn’t trading it yet, because it’s too soon, but it will affect winter wheat and livestock producers.”
