The Minnesota House and Senate tax committees have reviewed a property tax exemption for the buffers required by the state. Minnesota Corn Growers Association First Vice President Wes Beck testified in favor of the bill. “Since the passage of the Buffer Law in 2015, the Minnesota Corn Growers Association has advocated for buffer property tax relief,” said Beck. “In many cases, farmers are still taxed at the higher property tax rate as if those acres were still in production.” The amended bill calls for a 40 percent tax credit on buffer acres.
