NDSU Livestock Environmental Stewardship Specialist Miranda Meehan is working on multiple projects aimed at integrating crop-livestock systems. “We’re going to put in three different winter annual or winter cereals and we are hopefully going to graze this fall; look at the animal performance and production of the following cash crop, which is corn. Then we should see if there is a yield drag by having those winter cereals before our corn crop.” Meehan anticipates many benefits to the integrated system. “We are also using those grazing technologies to improve grazing efficiency.”
