The latest U.S. Drought Monitor shows 23 percent of the Midwest is in drought. Iowa exhibits the greatest area of drought with 58 percent of the state in some form of drought. Light-to-moderate precipitation accumulations mostly of less than two inches helped improve conditions in the region with the heaviest accumulations logged in isolated areas of southern Minnesota, and southern and northeastern Iowa. Areas of northeast North Dakota and northern Minnesota are still experiencing up to D2-level drought.
