In response to two weeks of farmer protests, the French government has announced plans to ease regulations and maintain government support. France will also remain opposed to a free trade agreement between the European Union and a handful of South American countries. The protests include a blockade of major highways out of Paris; burning tires and hay bales and spreading manure on a public building. Similar protests have been held in Germany, Poland and other parts of Europe.
