Fluctuating temperatures can cause stress on sorghum plants. NDSU Extension Forage Crops Production Specialist James Rogers says this can lead to toxicity issues in livestock. “Stressed sorghum can cause prussic acid, which can cause a quick death to animals that ingest too high of a concentration.” Rogers recommends moving cattle that are grazing on sorghum until the crop dries out the acid.
