At Monango, North Dakota, pastures have greened up after the late-June rains. “The last week of June most of the area caught anywhere from 3.5-to-5.5 inches of rain,” said Mark Wagner. “The second cutting of alfalfa is coming on strong and things look really good.” Wagner says flies and biting insects have been hard to control. “It’s a bugger when you’re out there fixing fence and you’ve got to douse yourself down with repellent; the cattle are out there with the same bugs.” Record heat in June was also tough on cattle.
