USDA Midwest Climate Hub Director Dennis Todey is not too concerned about the dry conditions in the Northern Plains in a localized sense. “There hasn’t been much precipitation over the last 30 to 60 days. Along with that, we’ve had warm temperatures with dry air. That helps with evaporation of the surface, more than we’d expect this time of the year.” Todey says it’s odd to see an increase in the dry conditions now. Typically, this is a time for widespread low intensity rainfall events.
