The North Dakota Mill finished the second quarter with profits of $3.3 million. That’s down from $4.5 million one year ago. As the country comes out of the pandemic General Manager Vance Taylor said flour inventories are building at the retail level. However, “the whole industry is expected to level out at a higher level than we had before the pandemic with so many people becoming interested in home backing after being home more.” During the North Dakota Industrial Board meeting, Taylor said the 600-hundredweight durum mill is in the startup phase and it should be fully commissioned by mid-March. Additional spring wheat capacity will come online by summer. It was also announced the state-owned mill has ratified a new four-year labor contract.
