The northern growing regions of Brazil are expected to have good yields. NDSU Extension Marketing Education Specialist Frayne Olson says the southern crop growing areas of Brazil are dry. “We’re starting to take yield potential and total production out of the Brazilian crop, because of the problems in the south, Argentina has more crop problems than Brazil, but rains in the forecast could re-stabilize the yield potential.” Growing concerns about the South American soybean crop are causing old crop soybean prices to rally. Olson says there are a few things impacting new crop prices. “How big is the South American crop? Will China come in to buy more U.S. soybeans to back fill their needs?” Olson was part of Tuesday’s Getting it Right in Soybean Production webinar, hosted by NDSU Extension.
