The Hazen, North Dakota area got more than one inch of rain in the last two weeks. This is an area in exceptional drought and farmer John Weinand says fields are starting to green. “The pastures were almost completely yellow. It was pathetic and it didn’t give us much hope until now.” Weinand says small grain emergence remains spotty. Even with the rain, the crops may still struggle at harvest. “We’re going to struggle a bit at harvest, because we’ll have crops not at the same stage. It all depends how the weather progresses as we go, but it’s better to have something growing than nothing.”
