The Russell Group President Randy Russell says it may be Memorial Day before we know if the federal infrastructure package will take a bipartisan or partisan route. “This will drag out awhile. There’s broad agreement to re-invest in roads, bridges and ports. There’s a broad disagreement on how much to put in the package and how to pay for it.” In mid-May, 42 agriculture organizations sent a letter to Congressional leadership, outlining disapproval for possible tax increases. Russell says the pay-fors will be a critical part of the infrastructure negotiations. “Where it gets really controversial is when you start talking about changing the Trump tax cuts of 2017, raising the corporate tax rates and changing the capital gains tax. When we get into that realm, there aren’t going to be many Republicans to support it.”
