According to South Dakota Senator John Thune, Republicans are open to a compromise on infrastructure if Democrats are willing to move forward on an infrastructure-only bill. Thune says there are many non-infrastructure details included in President Biden’s more than $2 trillion proposal. “It’s going to be hard to get Republicans to vote for the massive expansion, given the fact it’s going to be financed with a lot of tax increases in areas hitting agriculture particularly hard. Pass through businesses, the death tax and capital gains, they have a bunch of things on their agenda that would be disastrous for agriculture if allowed to get enacted. We’re working to try and get an infrastructure bill that’s truly that. Hopefully, Democrats will work with us.” Thune is reviewing a $568 billion infrastructure proposal released by Senate Republicans.
