CHS President and CEO Jay Debertin says the entire energy segment is feeling the impacts of the pandemic. “This negatively impacted energy returns. In addition, we had high costs associated with complying with the Renewable Fuel Standard. Renewable fuels credits are exorbitant right now.” Debertin is optimistic gasoline demand will pick up as COVID restrictions lift. “We are optimistic about the outlook for the industry, but we’re concerned about renewable fuels credits. It’s a cost for us to do business and it’s really hard to see how those prices come down, but they need to. It’s hampering all of us, even those who are strong supporters of renewable fuels.” Hear the interview.
