USDA is estimating the all wheat planted area at 46.4 million acres, an increase of five percent from 2020 and higher than the average trade estimate of 45.1 million acres. Winter wheat acres were higher than expected at 33 million acres. Spring wheat planted acres are forecast at 11.7 million, within trade expectations and down four percent from 2020. Declines in planted acres are forecast for all spring wheat states. Planted area for the largest spring wheat producing state, North Dakota, is estimated at 5.6 million acres, down two percent from one year ago. Read more from the Prospective Plantings report.
