National Beef Packing is increasing its beef processing capacity at the Tama, Iowa plant. More than $100 million will go in to doubling its daily capacity to 2,500 head, which will add a second shift. The project’s completion date is slated for late 2022. Cattlemen in the North Platte, Nebraska area are also seizing an opportunity in the beef processing industry. A group of cattle producers and investors have formed Sustainable Beef and plan on building a $200 million regional processing plant.
