The U.S. Trade Representative’s Office wants to meet with Canada to take a closer look at its dairy Tariff Rate Quota obligations. In the past, Canada has distorted the TRQ administration to limit dairy imports from the U.S. “They’ll be trying to find a way forward with Canada in those formal discussions,” said Shawna Morris, vice president of trade policy, USDEC/NMPF. “Hopefully, this can be resolved with Canada recognizing they aren’t complying with what they promised to do. If the meetings aren’t successful, the next step will be to launch into more formal stages of the dispute settlement process.”
