Minnesota pig farmers affected by COVID-19 are eligible for direct payments from the state Department of Agriculture. $5 will be paid for hogs weighing less than 25 pounds, and $30 per hog weighing over 225 pounds that were destroyed due to the lack of market availability. Documentation of proper disposal is required from a veterinarian and the applicant must’ve owned the pigs. Applications for these direct payments are available and due Tuesday, December 1. The online application can be completed here.
