Enrollment is open for the 2019 and 2020 Agriculture Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage programs. NDSU Extension has online decision tools to help farmers. “Wheat may pay most counties under either program, but higher payments could be possible under PLC,” explains Andy Swenson, farm management specialist, NDSU Extension. “For soybeans, there may not be a payment under PLC or ARC-County, but chances are better with ARC-County.” Corn could be a tough decision because it may not get a payment under either option. For minor oilseeds like canola, Swenson says PLC is the way to go. The 2019 program enrollment deadline is March 16. “It’s important for farmers to enroll sooner rather than later at their local Farm Service Agency office. If farmers miss enrollment, they will be ineligible to receive the 2019 ARC and PLC payments.”
