Multiple committees will be reviewing the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement before it comes up for a vote in the Senate. South Dakota Senator John Thune tells the Red River Farm Network altogether seven committees will mark up the USMCA implementing legislation. The Senate Finance Committee reviewed last week. The rest are scheduled to mark up the week of January 13. “Assuming we don’t receive the impeachment articles from the House of Representatives, I’m hopeful we can get it on the floor by the end of the week,” says Thune. “If we do, I think we can process it and get it passed.” Impeachment will take priority over the USMCA. “By majority vote, we could set impeachment aside, but there is unpredictability,” adds Thune. “I’ll be pushing hard to get the legislation processed and voted on as quickly as possible and get it to the president’s desk for a signature.”
