Friday was the deadline to submit public comments on the latest Renewable Fuel Standard proposal. Corn farmers and ethanol groups submitted comments, saying ethanol demand has declined. Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Geoff Cooper says it’s been a challenging year due to the small refinery exemptions. “We’ve been adamantly and diligently working with the administration and the EPA to get things back on track,” says Cooper. “We’re concerned the EPA’s biofuels proposal doesn’t go far enough in addressing what the president wants done.” Cooper says it can feel like a war of attrition sometimes. “We’ve had wins, successes and setbacks, but we’re going to keep fighting. All we’re asking is the EPA enforce the law.”
