In years of record beef production, it’s important to make sure U.S. export markets remain strong and viable. To do so, the North Dakota Beef Commission has contributed additional funds focused on beef markets in Japan. In the first year of promotion alone, Executive Director Nancy Jo Bateman says over three million pounds of American beef was moved through retail grocers in Japan. “For some of those retailers, that meant anywhere from about a 15-to-80 percent increase in movement of American beef,” says Bateman. “That’s real dollars to producers. Close to $300 of the value of every fed animal can be directly attributed to export potential.” Listen to more of the conversation in this story.
