As corn begins to emerge, Pioneer Field Agronomist Zach Fore says farmers should take the time to evaluate stands. “I think this is the time of year when you can learn a lot. We want to focus on the controllable factors. There’s a lot of things we can’t control, primarily weather, but what we can control is getting a good stand established.” Fore says its important to be in your field. “We’re looking for three things when we go out into an emerging cornfield. We’re looking for the population. Are we getting pretty close to what we plan to get for a plant population? Are they emerging uniformly? Finally, are they spaced uniformly?”
