In the recent farm bill debate in Congress, all of the Democrats and about 30 conservative Republicans voted against the legislation. The drama ended with a motion to reconsider. House Agriculture Committee Chairman Michael Conaway says that means the very same bill will come up for another vote. “It is all about immigration and the efforts leadership is going through to satisfy this group within the Republican caucus and get them to yes. Once we get that immigration vote, I’m going to ask leadership for the very next vote to be H.R. 2 so there is no gap between satisfying their demands on immigration and delivering their yes votes on the farm bill.” It will likely be late June before the farm bill gets back on the congressional calendar.
