Minn-Dak Vice President of Agriculture, Tom Knudson, says recent rains kept farmers from wrapping up the planting. “We’re probably 80 to 85 percent planted, which isn’t too bad. Maybe it’s slightly behind. Some of the beets were up in six days. The last weekend, we started observing emergence.” The rains will also help with weed control. “Those with the pre-emerge on should be smiling. It should be a good activation rainfall. Those who didn’t, there’s still an option of going lay by once the sugarbeets emerge.”
